BIMCO will host its Ordinary General Meeting in Athens on 14 May, followed by a Power Panel on the shipping market outlook and concluding with a reception.
BIMCO members are invited to join at the Yacht Club of Greece.
At the meeting, members will be able to attend the election of President Designate Ms Şadan Kaptanoğlu, owner of Kaptanoglu Shipping, who is nominated to take over the BIMCO presidency from Mr Anastasios Papagiannopoulos, BIMCO President and Principal of Common Progress.
Şadan Kaptanoğlu will lay out her vision for the next two years of BIMCO – and the environmental agenda will remain the key priority.
The next President Designate, who will follow after Ms Şadan Kaptanoğlu, will also be elected, and the Secretary General & CEO of BIMCO, Angus Frew, will present the financial status of BIMCO.
BIMCO will host a Power Panel after the meeting, which is free of charge for members. The evening ends with a Reception.
“We hope to speak to a lot of our members at the reception. It is a great opportunity to get input on our activities,” says Angus Frew, Secretary General & CEO of BIMCO.
2020 sulphur cap, terrible freight rates and new technology
The Power Panel debate will focus on the key developments impacting the shipping business today, including prospects and challenges for the dry bulk, oil tanker and container shipping markets, with special focus on the IMO 2020 global sulphur cap.
“How do we cope with the weakness in the main shipping markets right here and right now? The iron ore shipping market is under siege from mining disruptions and reused scrap metal in Chinese steel mills. All oil tankers were operating at lossmaking freight rates levels through most of 2018. And the first quarter of 2019 hasn’t been much better. What will happen in the second half of 2019? That is what we are going to try and answer,” says Peter Sand, BIMCO’s Chief Shipping Analyst, who will moderate the Power Panel.
NYMAR is sponsoring the Power Panel.
